Sogyo no Kotowari -shikai- by Chigami Sogyo no Kotowari -shikai- by Chigami
:icondonotuseplz::iconmyartplz:

My work may NOT be reproduced or republished, in any way, shape or form without MY PERMISSION. Respect that. Thank you.

I figured I might as well upload some pictures only featuring my Sōgyo no Kotowari shikai swords that I made for my Jūshirō Ukitake cosplay. Yes, shikai, I am slightly mad. xD I even did tsukamaki (costuming purpose one, not 100% authentic) for them, you know, the handle wrapping...

The swords are made mostly out of wood, some model clay, craft foam, ribbons in different sizes/colors and some other minor stuff...
I made them almost all by myself, with some sawing help from my stepfather Ari. Love him! :)

I'm very proud of how they turned out, considering I'm still a "new cosplayer" and don't really trust my skills...
So having said that, I do not do commissions. :iconsosorryplz:

Sōgyo no Kotowari shown in picture made by me.
Sōgyo no Kotowari belongs to Bleach. Tite Kubo.

Please leave a comment too if you :+fav:, thank you!

:faint: Thank you, I love them to bits.
But they are such a pain because I always seem to need to repair something after every con. lol

Chalk it up to learning experience. You've learned what does and doesn't work. What's strong enough to withstand a con and what is a constant repair job. They still look great! After all, you don't need them for real battle, just battle pics!

No problem! Ukitake is such an under-cosplayed captain and it's so nice to see someone put so much effort into him!

Yeah, he's not that common to see cosplayed, it's sad because he's a wonderful character. (although somehow here in Sweden/Finland I've managed to attend cons where I've bumped into one or two more Ukitakes... but I've always been the only one with shikai. heh)

Thank you, I really appreciate it!
I love Ukitake so I try my best to do him justice. :)

I wish I had the bugdet to make stuff out of wood and such, right now Im trying to make a suit of Kushala Daora armor out of paper lol :D. In any case I love how this turned out, though I dont think the sash that connects the two swords is supposed to be velvet-like, but overall this is excellent (granted some mistakes are visible), good job overall :iconimseriousplz:

Thank you for feedback.
I have easy (and free) access to wood. And about the ribbon thingy it isn't exactly that shiny IRL but yeah, I tried to use what I could find here in my very limited hometown in northern Finland. xD lol
I used that ribbon because it was easy to attach to those square ring thingies at the ends of both swords since it was... well, ribbon. But I did try to use some more rope-like stuff at first, but I got problems with how to attach it and skipped that idea.

Thank you. :) (and might I ask what mistakes? I may or may not know them already and you made me curious)

just the usual issues found in trying to make two perfectly idenitical weapons or props, such as width of certain parts, or the length and angle of a point, nothing big. No one is going to really be paying attention to that though, especially in pictures, as the props are the "side" parts of any costume.

Yeah, exactly identical props are reaaaaally hard to do.
And you are right on that one, no one is going to shitstorm me for that.

what a fantastic job you did, it's the best rendition of Sogyo no Kotowari i've ever seen, and that's including some of the ones that are sold on ebay and the like.

well done.
